In het laatste half uur van deze workshop gaan wij samen zingen. Welke van de bekende 2000 uitvoeringen zal het zijn? Dat is een verrassing.

When Rabbi Micheal Shire came accros Godly Play he saw the enormous potential to teach Jewish children not only about the Torah stories, but also about the traditions and festivals. In this session you will not only learn about its endless possibilities, but you will also see it in action.

Israeli singer Bat Ella in Tribute to Debbie Friedman

A tribute to the legendary Jewish-American singer-songwriter Debbie Friedman (1951–2011), one of the most prolific and influential spiritual leaders in the world of Jewish music. Her melodies are sung in thousands of congregations across America and around the world, spanning all streams of Judaism. Through the songs she wrote and the messages she shared, Debbie sparked profound revolutions that continue to resonate to this day. She inspired audiences to fall in love again with their Judaism and feel proud of it; she gave a central, dignified and rightful place to the female voice within the Jewish experience; and she reshaped synagogue prayer by shifting the focus from the cantor to the community itself. By championing the immense power of communal singing, Debbie transformed Jewish worship into a living, connective, and empowering experience - one in which prayer became active, participatory and shared. Her accessible, deeply emotional melodies, rooted in Jewish texts, entered the liturgical cycle of prayers, holidays and community gatherings, helping to open the gates of communal prayer to women's voices and spiritual leadership and reshaping the sound of Jewish life around the world. Marking 15 years since her passing, this International Women’s Day event invites participants at Limmud NL to celebrate a meaningful encounter between two inspirational women. Bat Ella, Debbie’s longtime musical partner and collaborator throughout the 1990s, returns to the Limmud stage with deep personal resonance - their final concert together took place at Limmud UK in 1995. In this musical and storytelling-based session, Bat Ella reflects on Debbie’s influence on her own artistic journey and how this friendship shaped her Jewish-Israeli identity. Through song, memory, and communal participation, the session honors Debbie’s enduring impact and celebrates the strength, creativity, and transformative power of women in Jewish music.
